Episode 12

To much sadness, I have to announce that we are very close to the end of Chapter 1. Next week will see the last 4 Episodes of Frank Rain Chapter 1. That’s right, I said 4 episodes. Not 3.

There are 4 more pages left to Chapter 1 and I really don’t see any point in making everyone wait until Monday to see the ending of chapter 1. So I have decided to bump up the schedule for next week from 3 days to 4, starting Monday as usual, the episodes will appear Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

I have to be honest and say I don’t have a start date for Chapter 2. Right now, as many of you know, I’m busy with freelance and Frank Rain will have to get done on my free time. I will, however, try my best to speed things up, without sacrificing the quality I have been providing in the pages.

I guess, the good thing to come out of this is that while you wait, you will have the option of purchasing the first issue of Frank Rain! I am taking all of the Episodes of Chapter 1 and putting them together to make issue 1 of Frank Rain.

As of this writing, the comic will be black and white. 22 pages. The page count can easily change. I am mustering up the nerves to ask some fellow Artist to donate pin-ups to the comic. Also, I am greatly debating if I should go with color cover or black and white. The logo will definitely be red. I just have not decided if it’s a good idea to add any other color yet.

I plan to put out pre-order details along with the final episode for chapter 1 with a link to pre-order. This will give me a very good idea of how much copies I should print out, apart from the one’s I plan on printing out for conventions.

Okay, more details to come soon. Remember, the schedule has been updated for next week!

God bless.

When I started planning Frank Rain out I was faced with two options of which I had to choose one.

To go Analog (traditional drawing on paper with pen & ink) or Digital (computer based art).

The choice was hard to make. On one hand, if I chose Analog, I would have original art pages from the book, and I could ink with brush & ink which is something I highly enjoy (even more then inking digital). Yet it would take a bit longer to finish pages and corrections, especially after the pages were inked, were going to be a nightmare.

Still, going digital had its pros and cons too. For one, I would not have original art pages. But making corrections and being able to work at a much faster rate then I would in analog was a plus.

In the end, I decided to do the entire comic digital. But not before doing a few test pages in analog to make sure it’s what I wanted to do. Bellow are the only 2 analog inked pages I worked on. First I sketched the pages out digitally in Manga Studio, then I printed them out on Bristol Board and inked them with brush and ink.

Although I am a huge fan of analog inking, I do not regret making the choice to work in digital. The ability to work much faster and make corrections has proven priceless. Ever since starting the comic, I have gone back and forth, making changes to the pages which I could not have done in analog pages without redrawing the entire page over again.

This year I’m proud to be a part of Blue Line Pro’s annual auction for the American Cancer Society. And out of the 4 sketch cards I am donating, the first one is of Frank Rain himself.
